Principal research interests:
Ecology of large mammals, with particular emphasis to inter-species relationships, and assessments of habitat capacity.
Current research projects:
Restitution of the Carpathian population of the European bison
Program includes: population studies (numbers, dynamics, and population structure), genetic monitoring, and assessments of spatial distribution and habitat preferences. The goal of the program is the establishment of a stable meta-population and the network of bison refuges in the Carpathians, through the extension of the home range of present free-ranging population of the species and introductions. The program is conducted in co-operation with Slovak, Romanian, Hungarian, and Ukrainian partners. In Polish part of the range, the focus of the program is the establishment and verification of bison refuges under the framework of Natura 2000 network.
